We are very proud of our schoolgirls team who has managed to win the Hurricanes Tournament B Grade for the last 6 years. The local school competition is limited to 3-4 teams from Lytton High, Gisborne Girls HS, Wairoa and sometimes Waikohu or East Coast. Under the guidance of some truly passionate volunteer coaches and parents the team has made great progress and this was highlighted by Amiria Mita’s selection in the 2006 Hurricanes Tournament Team, the first player selected from any team in the B Grade. In 2007, 4 players were selected and this again highlights the improvement of the girls.

Unfortunately in 2009 Poverty Bay will not be fielding a Schoolgirls Team. There was not the same enthusiasm from the girls this year as we have had in the past and therefore the union had to make the call not to send the team.
